TESTStar Wars: Galactic Racer
Star Wars: Galactic Racer : finally the big racing game Star Wars ?
By the Max Level Gaming team
Max Level Gaming score
8/10Star Wars and speed have always been a good match. Galactic Racer takes up this idea and turns it into a real arcade racing game, with anti-gravity vehicles, particularly dangerous circuits and a structure that does not just follow the championships. Fuse Games signs a surprisingly original proposal that sometimes recalls Episode I: Race while immediately seeking its own identity.
Gameplay
8.5/10Speed is the great success of Galactic Racer.
The vehicles quickly give the impression of being at the limit of the control and the circuits demand as many reflexes as of knowledge of the terrain.
The run structure also brings an interesting dimension: vehicle choice, improvements and advantages can change the way in which a series of races are approached.
Some obstacles sometimes appear brutally and artificial intelligence can be particularly aggressive, but this difficulty also contributes to the tension of competitions.
Graphics & art direction
9/10Galactic Racer perfectly exploits the Star Wars universe.
Vehicles have a lot of personality and each planet brings its own landscapes, conditions and dangers.
The environments are not just a set: they contribute directly to the pace and readability of the races.
The realization manages above all to find this worn and industrial aesthetic typical of the saga.
Sound design & music
9/10Engine noise, accelerations and collisions immediately give vehicles weight.
Communications, extraterrestrial voices and familiar sounds constantly reinforce Star Wars identity.
The music perfectly accompanies the most intense moments and turns certain racing ends into real movie scenes.
Story & interest
7.5/10Galactic Racer tells of Shade's ascent to the Galactic League.
The scenario remains above all an effective excuse to travel, meet new opponents and participate in increasingly dangerous events.
History obviously does not have the depth of a great RPG Star Wars, but it perfectly fulfils its role and brings enough context to give meaning to progress.
Content & polish
8/10Between the campaign, different vehicle categories, improvements, challenges and multiplayer, Galactic Racer has a great amount of content.
The structure of the runs also makes you want to repeat some tests with other configurations.
A few peaks of difficulty and some rather long races may frustrate, but the whole remains very convincing.
VERDICT MAX LEVEL GAMING
8/10Star Wars: Galactic Racer succeeds in something that has long been expected: restoring a real place to the race in the Star Wars universe.
Fast, spectacular and original enough not to live only in the shadow of Episode I: Racer, the title of Fuse Games has a true identity.
It's not just a good Star Wars game. It's mostly a very good arcade racing game.
